This is how the glitter gets on the Advent calendars.

What must absolutely not be missing on an Advent calendar for most people? That's right! Glitter! Because it's the glitter that really makes the Advent calendar feel Christmassy.

Have you ever wondered how the glitter gets onto the Christmas calendar? At Richard Sellmer Verlag, there have been Advent calendars with glitter for almost 80 years. In the past, the glitter was applied by hand. The Advent calendar, which already had glue applied, ran along a conveyor belt. Employees sat alongside the conveyor belt with bowls of glitter in front of them. They would take one of the Advent calendars from the conveyor belt and had to pull it once through the bowl, and it would then shine with a Christmas glow.

With ever-increasing order numbers, it became increasingly impractical to apply the glitter to the calendars this way. It simply took too long. Now good advice was expensive! Because there was no glitter machine on the market. But what would a Swabian tinkerer be if he had let that discourage him? Tim Sellmer, the founder's son, pondered, tinkered, and thought: do it yourself! And so, in the 1970s, he developed and built such a machine himself on short notice.

And since then, the good piece has (almost) always run reliably and gives our Advent calendars their final Christmas sparkle. Admittedly, the little machine has now gotten quite old and sometimes repairs have to be made. But even today, you will search in vain for a glitter machine that could apply glitter in large quantities to our calendars.

And so the good piece is cared for and maintained and has been in use for you almost daily for over 50 years. And we hope and wish that it will faithfully serve for many, many more years!
